An Example: The Fridge Door Mishap
While we were in the process of transforming the kitchen for this Corpus Christi family, a tiny fleck of paint landed on their new shiny fridge door (they’d updated their major appliances). So, of course, one of our crew, who’s conscientious about cleanliness, went ahead and scrubbed the gunk off… with some of the stainless steel finish!
His overzealousness with the green scrubby pad dulled the sparkle of the fridge door. And while on the scale of errors, this was a tiny one, it was a detail that mattered to us and the homeowners.
Let’s Briefly Chat About The Fridge
This wasn’t just any conventional everyday fridge you grab from the nearest home improvement store. It was a modern, high-tech fridge with every possible bell and whistle – including a TV screen on the door!
What this means was that replacing the fridge would be a considerable expense. On the other hand, not replacing the fridge would damage our relationship with these homeowners. And no sum of money would be able to fix that.
The Question & The Golden Rule
We’re homeowners too. We’ve worked with many contractors on our own homes over the years, let alone the 17+ we’ve been in business. And we know what it’s like to be in your shoes.
So, our go-to question in these kinds of instances:
“How would we feel if this happened to us, in our own home?”
Then we do what we would want a contractor to do for us – take care of it in a mature, responsible way. We were hired to do a job, and in doing the job, we damaged our customer’s property. How slight the damage was didn’t matter – it was something that WE caused, and we had to take accountability, which is a big part of our Company Culture.
How We Handled The Situation
The ONLY answer was to replace the entire fridge door. So that’s exactly what we did.
We didn’t hem or haw or give any excuses. And we didn’t do it reluctantly. Because being professional often means taking the higher, more difficult road – but our customers love usfor it. PureTree doesn’t take a day off from doing the right thing!
